OUR WHY
We often get asked if there is a true need for an organisation like ours. Our response is often backed by data points. Here are five data points for anyone who wants to know why we are committed to our case.
1.
HOMOPHOBIA IN SPORT
A study conducted by Out on the Fields showing 80% of people in Australia have either witnessed or experienced homophobia in sport, with 75% believing that an openly gay person would not be safe as a spectator at a sporting event.

2.
SUICIDE RATES IN LGBTQI+ POPULATION
Data from the National LGBTI Health Alliance shows that young LGBTQI+ people are five times more likely to attempt suicide compared to the general population, with transgender people aged 18 and over nearly eleven times more likely.

3.
STIGMA & DISCRIMINATION IN SPORT
"Researchers from Australia’s Monash University conducted surveys and interviews with female athletes from a variety of sports in Australia and rugby union players in the UK and Canada. Nearly all (91%) of the rugby players said most people assume they are lesbians for playing the sport."

4.
SAFETY AS A PRIMARY CONCERN
"In a sports system characterised by a binary gender order and gender stereotypes, LGBTI* people can feel insecure and sometimes discriminated against. This often prevents them from actively participating in sport."
