Creating the WGBC Community

August 2020 was a transformative month. Having spent a year working on the World Gay Boxing Championships (WGBC) it was a special moment when we registered as a Not For Profit and the organisation came into existence last month. We held our first Board Meeting celebrating the occasion with commitments of more hard work, developing friendships, celebrating successes and having fun! Australian and international media published articles about the WGBC helping us marshall support for the championships.

COVID-19 has taught us the importance of being active, taking care of your physical and mental health. Boxing helps increase self-confidence and is an excellent form of stress relief stimulating the production of endorphins. Boxing provides a way of getting to know yourself and others. A boxing workout of jabs, crosses and upper cuts is great form of cardiovascular exercise while building physical strength! We also learnt to foster a sense of belonging. With this in mind we went live on four social media platform and would love you to share your stories and engage with the WGBC community:

We are partnering with Warrior Within Boxing and launching a LGBTQI training group. We will train Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at Fit Fighters in Bondi. It will be a safe space for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans, intersex, non-binary people and friends. We are hoping some of the group will want to participate in a LGBTQ Fight Night in 2021. Classes will not involve contact and are open to all abilities. If you have boxed before, are new to the sport or just considering boxing as a fitness exercise. You are more than welcome to join.
